JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 19. Hi everyone! In this article, Learn Japanese daily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 91 :

Vます+あげる/あがる

Explanation:

Done doing V (on the other hand, also means to increase V)
Used to show the completion of an action V, implies hard work.

For example:

論文を書き上げた。
Ronbun wo kaki ageta.
I finished writing my thesis.

資料を作り上げました。
Shiryou wo tsukuri agemashita.
I finished preparing the documents.

Structure 92 :

V(ます)+切る/切れる

Explanation:

To finish completely (To emphasize the quantity)
V(ます)+切れない unfinished.

For example:

難しい言葉がたくさんあって覚え切れない。
Muzukashii kotoba ga takusan atte oboe kirenai.
There are too many difficult words, I can’t remember them all.

運を使い切った。
Un wo tsukai kitta.
I have used up my luck.

Structure 93 :

Vます+かける/かけのN/かけだ

Explanation:

Doing V, working on V, in the middle of doing V.
For a long process, it means “about to”, “going to”.

For example:

食べかけのアイスクリーム。
Tabe kake no aisukuriimu.
Half‐eaten ice cream.

レポートを書きかけたとき、電話が鳴った。
Repooto wo kaki kaketa toki, denwa ga natta.
When I was writing the report, the phone rang.

Structure 94 :

V(ます)+たてだ/たてのN

Explanation:

To have just finished doing V.
Equal Vたばかり(in speaking)
Used with certain verbs.
Not used with 読む、建てる、寝る、食べる

For example:

このケーキは焼きたてだ。
Kono keeki wa yaki tateda.
This cake is freshly baked.

洗い立てのシャツを着ます。
Arai tate no shatsu wo kimasu.
I will wear the newly-washed shirt.

Structure 95 :

(V/N/Aい/Aな)普+といい(のに)なあ
(Vたら/Aかったら/Aだったら/Nだったら/Vば/Aければ/Aなら/Nなら)+(いいのに)なあ

Explanation:

How great would it be if ~
To wish.
Used when speaking.

For example:

このケーキを食べられたらいいなあ。
Kono keeki wo taberaretara ii naa.
I wish I could eat this cake. 

彼女に会えるといいなあ。
Kanojo ni aeru to ii naa.
I hope I can see her.

材料は新鮮だったら(いいのに)なあ。
Zairyou wa shinsen dattara (iinoni) naa.
It would be great if the materials were fresh.

担任は田中先生ならなあ。
Tannin wa Tanaka-sensei nara naa.
It would be great if the homeroom teacher was Mr. Tanaka.
