JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 20. Hi everyone! In this article, Learn Japanese daily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 96 :

(Vば/Vなければ/Vたら/Vなかったら)+よかった

Explanation:

If only, If only I had done V.
To show regret.

For example:

遅刻してしまった。もっと早く家出ればよかった。
Chikoku shite shimatta. Motto hayaku ie dereba yokatta.
I was late, if only I had left earlier.

田中さんとあんなことを言わなければよかった。
Tanaka-san to anna koto o iwanakereba yokatta.
If only I didn’t say that to Mr. Tanaka.

Structure 97 :

Vば~のにVたら~のに

Explanation:

If only.
To emphasize the regret.

For example:

パーティー楽しかったよ。君も行けばよかったのに。
Paatii tanoshikatta yo. Kimi mo ikereba yokatta noni.
The party was really fun. If only you had come (but you didn’t).

安かったら買うのに。
Yasukattara kau noni.
If it was cheap I would have bought it (but it wasn’t so I didn’t buy it).

Structure 98 :

Vる+かな(あ)Vない+かな(あ)

Explanation:

Don’t know if ~
To show the interrogative-ness, put at the end of a sentence to question yourself.
If talking to other, it means to directly show a wish.

For example:

バス早く来ないかなあ。
Basu hayaku konai kanaa.
Don’t know if the bus is going to be early.

この試験うまく行くかなあ。
Kono shiken umaku iku kanaa.
Don’t know if I can do well in this exam.

今日富士山が見えるかな。
Kyou Fujisan ga mieru kana.
Don’t know if I can see mount Fuji today.

Structure 99 :

Vる+まで

Explanation:

Until the action V takes place ~

For example:

映画が始まるまで30分あります。
Eiga ga hajimaru made 30-pun arimasu.
There is 30 more minutes until the time the movie starts.

連絡があるまで待っています。
Renraku ga aru made matte imasu.
I’m waiting till there is a contact.

Structure 100 :

N+まで

Explanation:

Even N ~
To show surprise the topic.

For example:

この魚は骨まで食べられますよ。
Kono sakana wa hone made taberaremasu yo.
You can even eat this fish’s bones.

あなたまで私を疑うのですか。
Anata made watashi o utagau nodesuka.
How can even you also doubt me?
