JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 20. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 96:

V/ A/ N (short form) + ばかりに


Only because ~
Followed by something bad.

For example:

Ano hikouki ni notta bakari ni, kare wa shinda.
He died only because he had taken that plane.

Eigo no sensei ga kiraina bakari ni, eigo mo kirai ni natte shimatta.
I hate English only because I hate the English teacher.

Structure 97:

V/ A/ N (short form) + のみならず/のみか


Not only ~ but also ~

For example:

Kono eiga wa nihon nominarazu, gaikoku demo yoku shirarete iru.
This movie is not only known in Japan but also world wide.

Kono ryouri wa aji ga yoi nominarazu, mitame mo utsukushii.
This dish doesn’t only taste good but looks good too.

Kodomo nomika otona mo kono geemu ni hamatte iru.
Not only kids but also adults love this game.

Structure 98:

Vよう ではないか/じゃないか


Let’s do something together.
To show a proposal, usually used by men (formally).

For example:

Kyou wa iwaida. Minna de nomou de wa nai ka.
Today is the anniversary, let’s go have a drink.

Dare mo yaranai nara, boku ga yatte miyou janai ka.
If nobody can do that, I will try.

Structure 99:

V(minus ます)+ようがない/ようもない


Don’t know V/ There is no way to V

For example:

Nanto ittara ii no ka, iiyou ga nai.
If talking about what’s good, I don’t know what to say.

Kono sakubun wa, nihongo ga mechakuchade naoshiyou ga nai.
This paper, because the Japanese is messy so there is no way to fix it.

Structure 100:

V/ A/ N (short form) +かのようだ/かのように~


It’s like/ Seems like.

For example:

Soushiki ga hajimaru to ame ga furidashita. Marude sora ga naite iru ka no youda.
It was raining when the funeral started. It’s like the sky also cried.

Kowai mono demo mita ka no youni, kanojo wa furuete ita.
She is shivering as if she sees something scary.
