JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 20. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.
Structure 96:
V/ A/ N (short form) + ばかりに
Explanation:
Only because ~
Followed by something bad.
For example:
教科書を忘れたばかりに、先生に叱られた。
Kyoukasho wo wasureta bakari ni, sensei ni shikarareta.
I was scolded by my teacher since I forgot my textbook.
これを食べたばかりに、お腹が痛くなった。
Kore wo tabeta bakari ni, onaka ga itaku natta.
My stomach started hurting just because I ate this.
Structure 97:
V/ A/ N (short form) + のみならず/のみか
Explanation:
Not only ~ but also ~
For example:
彼は俳優のみならず、漫画家もしている。
Kare wa haiyuu nominarazu, mangaka mo shite iru.
He is not only an actor, but also a manga artist.
私のみならず、田中さんも泳ぐことができる。
Watashi nominarazu, Tanaka-san mo oyogu koto ga dekiru.
Not only me, but Tanaka can also swim.
子供のみか大人もこのゲームにはまっている。
Kodomo nomika otona mo kono geemu ni hamatte iru.
Not only kids but also adults love this game.
Structure 98:
Vよう ではないか/じゃないか
Explanation:
Let’s do something together.
To show a proposal, usually used by men (formally).
For example:
一緒に映画を見ようではないか。
Issho ni eiga wo miyou dewa nai ka.
Let’s watch a movie together.
ゲームをしようじゃないか。
Geemu wo shiyou janai ka.
Let’s play games.
Structure 99:
V(minus ます)+ようがない/ようもない
Explanation:
Don’t know V/ There is no way to V
For example:
この時計は古すぎて直しようがない。
Kono tokei wa furu sugite choku shiyou ga nai.
This watch is too old, so there is no way to fix it.
過去に戻りようがない。
Kako ni modoriyou ga nai.
There is no way to go back to the past.
Structure 100:
V/ A/ N (short form) +かのようだ/かのように~
Explanation:
It’s like/ Seems like.
For example:
この人形はまるで生きているかのようだ。
Kono ningyou wa marude ikite iru ka no youda.
It looks like this doll is alive.
今日は暑すぎて、まるで夏が戻ってきたかのようだ。
Kyou wa atsu sugite, marude natsu ga modotte kita ka no youda.
It’s too hot today, it’s as if summer is back.
怖いものでも見たかのように、彼女は震えていた。
Kowai mono demo mita ka no youni, kanojo wa furuete ita.
She is shivering as if she sees something scary.
