JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 19. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.
Structure 91:
Vるの/ Aいの/ Aなの + も/は + もっともだ。
Explanation:
Of course ~
For example:
あなたは彼女の誕生日を忘れたから、彼女が怒るのももっともだ。
Anata wa kanojo no tanjoubi wo wasureta kara, kanojo ga okoru no mo mottomoda.
You forgot her birthday, so it’s no wonder she gets angry.
大切なものをなくしたから、悲しくなるのももっともだ。
Taisetsuna mono wo nakushita kara, kanashiku naru no mo mottomoda.
She lost something important, so it’s no wonder she feels sad.
あなたがそう言うのはもっともだ。
Anata ga sou iu no wa mottomoda.
You talk as it has to be like that.
Structure 92:
Vるも/N (も)/ないも + 同然(どうぜん)だ。
Explanation:
Almost (It’s not the exact same thing, but almost like that).
For example:
相手のチームが強い。私たちは負けるも同然だ。
Aite no chiimu ga tsuyoi. Watashitachi wa makeru mo douzenda.
The opponent’s team is so strong. We are almost defeated.
彼の財産はないも同然だ。
Kare no zaisan wa nai mo douzenda.
He has almost no property.
Strucure 93:
V/ A/ N (short form) + だけましだ
Explanation:
At least, luckily.
Used to show a not-so-good situation but at least it’s not the worst.
For example:
今日は曇りだけど、雨が降らないだけましだ。
Kyou wa kumori dakedo, ame ga furanai dake mashida.
It’s cloudy today, but at least it doesn’t rain.
このアパートは、駅から遠いけれど、静かだけましだ。
Kono apaato wa, eki kara tooi keredo, shizuka dake mashida.
This apartment is far from the station, but at least it’s quiet.
Structure 94:
V/ A/ N (short form) + だけあって/だけに/だけのことはある
Explanation:
Because ….
To emphasize a particular quality, characteristic.
For example:
彼は10年間日本に住んだだけあって、日本の文化に詳しいです。
Kare wa 10-nenkan Nihon ni sunda dake atte, Nihon no bunka ni kuwashii desu.
He lived in Japan for 10 years, so he knows quite a lot about Japanese culture.
このアパートはとても高い。高級アパートだけのことはある。
Kono apaato wa totemo takai. Koukyuu apaato dake no koto wa aru.
This apartment is very expensive. As expected of a luxury apartment.
このバッグは安いだけにすぐに壊れてしまった。
Kono baggu wa yasui dake ni suguni kowarete shimatta.
This bag is broken quickly because it’s cheap.
Structure 95:
A ばかりか/ばかりでなく B も
Explanation:
Not only a but also b.
For example:
木村さんは美しいばかりか、優しいです。
Kimura-san wa utsukushii bakari ka, yasashii desu.
Kimura is not only beautiful, she is also kind.
このスポーツ大会には、学生ばかりでなく教師も参加します。
Kono supootsu taikai ni wa, gakusei bakaridenaku kyoushi mo sanka shimasu.
Not only students but also teachers will participate in this sports event.
