Meaning and how to use :
To describe the feeling of regret, doubt of the speaker when a thing was supposed to happen but in reality it didn’t.
Examples:
1. 私が書いたレポートが先生に「ぜひ高い点を取れる」と褒められたはずなのに、なんでそんなに悪い点を得られたか。
Watashi ga kai ta repoto ga sensei ni ‘zehi takai ten o toreru’ to homerare ta hazu na noni, nande sonnani warui ten o erare ta ka.
My report was complimented “Definitely will be high mark” but why did I got such bad mark.
2. 何度もチェックしたはずなんだけど、なぜ間違いがあるかな…
Nan do mo chekku shi ta hazu na n da kedo, naze machigai ga aru ka na?
I checked over and over again but why are there still errors..
3. 注意したはずなのに、息子が聞かずにばかばかしいことをした。
Chuui shi ta hazu na noni, musuko ga kika zu ni bakabakashii koto o shi ta.
I told him but he went and do stupid things anyway.
4. 昨日文章を何回も読み直したはずなのに今は何も覚えていない。
Kinou bunshou o nan kai mo yominaoshi ta hazu na noni ima ha nani mo oboe te i nai.
I read the docmuments many times yesterday but I can’t remember any now.
5. ちゃんと練習したはずなんだけど、体が丈夫にならない。
Chanto renshuu shi ta hazu na n da kedo, karada ga joubu ni nara nai.
I trained hard but my body still doesn’t get bulkier.
