Examples:

Amerika ni iku mae ni, Toukyou de daigaku ni tsuugaku shite imashita.
Before going to America, I studied at a university in Tokyo.
学科を研究者になる前に、わたしが歴史を研究しました。
Gakka wo kenkyuusha ni naru mae ni, watashi ga rekishi wo kenkyuu shimashita.
Before becoming a researcher, I studied history.
寝る前に歯を磨きます。
Nerumae ni ha wo migakimasu.
Before going to bed, I brushed my teeth.
授業に出席する前に復習します。
Jugyou ni shusseki suru mae ni fukushuu shimasu.
Before attending class, I review the previous lessons.
結婚する前に、この会社に通勤していました。
Kekkon suru mae ni, kono kaisha ni tsuukin shite imashita.
