Meaning and how to use :
Expressing the meaning “even / whether it is in such a situation or with someone with such a character …”. The later clause often expresses criticism, evaluation, negativity, negative justification.
Example:
1. 今どんなに勉強するとしたところで、明日は試験ができないだろう。
Ima donnani benkyou suru to shita tokoro de, ashita wa shiken ga dekinaidarou.
No matter what you learn now, it is unlikely that you will pass the test tomorrow.
2. 招待状をたくさん配るとしたって、10人だけ来るだろう。
Joutaijou o takusan kubaru to shitatte, 10-nin dake kurudarou.
Even if you give out tons of invitations, probably only 10 people will come.
3. 両親がどんなに説明するにした所で、あの子は自分のバカな意図を忘れないよ。
Ryoushin ga donnani setsumei suru ni shita tokoro de, anokoha jibun no bakana ito wo wasurenai yo.
No matter how much his parents convince, the child still doesn’t forget his stupid idea.
4. 彼女は30歳にしたって、まだ経済的には親にを依存したままだ。
Kanojo wa 30-sai ni shitatte, mada keizai teki ni wa oya ni wo izon shita mamada.
She is already 30 years old but still financially depends on her parents.
5. 一度だけ高い点を得たとしたところで、実力があるかどうか証明されない。
Ichido dake takai ten wo eta to shita tokoro de, jitsuryoku ga aru ka dou ka shoumei sa renai.
Even achieving a high score once is still unable to prove whether you have capability or not.
