Meaning and how to use :
Describing the scope. When using this structure to express the meaning of “choosing something from the given ones”, it has the same meaning with 「Nのなか」. When you list many nouns, you can use「N1とN2.。。。のうち」.
Examples:
1. この４つのかばんのうち、君がどれが一番好きですか。
Kono yotsu no kaban no uchi, kimi ga dore ga ichiban sukidesu ka.
Which of these four bags do you like best?
2. 春樹村上作家の小説のうち、一番人気があるのは「ノルウェー森」です。
Haruki Murakami sakka no shousetsu no uchi, ichiban ninki ga aru no wa `norufei mori’ desu.
Among novels written by Haruki Murakami, the most popular one is “Norwegian Forest”.
3. 果物のうち一番好きなのはスイカです。
Kudamono no uchi ichiban sukina no wa suikadesu.
Among the fruits, my favorite is watermelon.
4. 家族全員のうち一番愛する人は父です。
Kazoku zenin no uchi ichiban aisuruhito wa chichidesu.
Among my family members, I love my father most.
5. 日本料理のうち大嫌いのはてんぷらです。
Nihonryouri no uchi daikirai no wa tenpura desu.
Among the Japanese food, I really hate Tempura.
