At the university, a male student is helping the teacher. What will the male student do first after this?

The man: Teacher, may I bring these printouts to the classroom for you?

The woman: Thank you. Ah. But there’s no need to bring them all. Wait a second.

Because I will divide them into necessary things and unnecessary things.

The man: Yes, so I will go to the classroom first and open the window. Since today’s hot.

The woman: Yeah, please. Uh, before you go to the classroom, can you bring this to Mr. Tanaka’s room? Just leave it there. After opening the window, come back here again. Because there are many things to bring, I can’t carry them all on my own.

The man: Yes, I got it

What will the male student do first after this?

In order to understand and make this type of lesson effectively, you can apply the following steps:

1. Catch the topic and the question :

The situation taking place here is:


At the university, a male student is helping the teacher.

The question is:

男の学生は、このあとまず何をしますか。What will the male student do first after this?

2. Note the main ideas:

In this form of listening, you need to pay attention to the words that describe the action and its order. And you should also focus on key words instead of trying to listen all the sentences then missing important words.

After listening, we have some key words as follows:

ちょっと待って: Wait a second

分ける: to divide (into)

窓を開け: to open the window

田中先生の部屋: Mr. Tanaka’s room

ここへ戻ってきて: to come back here

3. Choosing the answer:

According to what we have noted, we can predict:

+ The teacher will divide (分ける) the printouts into necessary things and unnecessary things, so the male student was asked to do other thing => we eliminate answer 1.

+ The next is 窓を開け (to open the window). This will be done after bringing something to Mr. Tanaka’s room ( 田中先生の部屋) because the sentence before expressed that (教室に行く前) before going to the classroom (to open the window). => The action of bringing something to Mr. Tanaka’s room will take place before the action of going to the classroom to open the window.

+ The next is ここへ戻ってきて (come back here) to bring the printouts.

+ So the order of the actions is : Bringing somthing to Mr. Tanaka’s room => Opening the window => Bringing the printouts

So we choose answer 3. 田中先生のところへ行く
