N2 listening practice lesson 33 – Tapescript:

Vocabulary :

横になる(よこになる) : to lie down (and rest)

無理矢理(むりやり) : forcibly, against one’s will

Translation for Reference :

A woman is coming to the animal hospital with her dog. How is the dog now?

Man : How is the dog after that?

Woman : He has eaten a little bit since yesterday, but he is still lying down.

Man : Is that so? Well, he doesn’t seem to have a fever. Is he taking medicine properly?

Woman : Yes, he is forced to take medicine every day.

Man : Does pee come out properly?

Woman : Yes, I think it’s normal, but when I take him for a walk, he wants to go home immediately…

Man : Is that so… Please keep letting him take the medicine for a while and see how it goes.

How is the dog now?

1. Just sleeping

2. Wants to go for a walk

3. Unwell but has an appetite

4. Doesn’t dislike taking medicine

Instruction to practice:

Exercise format:  Find the right information

In order to understand and do this form of exercise effectively, you can apply the following steps:

This is the basic form of listening and it is not difficult to find the answer. We can do this exercise with the exclusion method.

The woman talked to the man about the state of her dog: やっと少し食べるようになったんですが、まだ…横になってばかりいます (He has eaten a little bit, but he’s still lying down), 無理矢理ですが、毎日飲ませています (he is forced to take medicine every day), 散歩に連れていってもすぐに帰りたがって (when I take him for a walk, he wants to go home immediately).

The answers are :

2.It wants to go for a walk -> wrong

3.It is unwell but has an appetite (she didn’t mention that her dog had an appetite)

4.It doesn’t dislike taking medicine – > wrong

So the correct answer is: 1.寝てばかりいる
