JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 4. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 16 :

Vよう+と思う:

Nhóm I: Vu→o+う
Nhóm II: Vる→よう
Nhóm III:する→しよう
くる→こよう

Explanation:

To intend to do ~
To show the speaker’s intention and will, when referring to yourself.
Vよう+と思っている To emphasize the process, have an intention for a while and still have now, or have an intention to carry out.

For example: 

新しいアパートに引っ越ししようと思っている。
Atarashii apaato ni hikkoshi shiyou to omotte iru.
I’m thinking of moving to a new apartment.

今週の日曜日に家族と一緒に海へ遊びに行こうと思っています。 
Konshuu no nichiyoubi ni kazoku to issho ni umi e asobi ni ikou to omotte imasu.
I’m thinking of going to the sea with my family this Sunday.

来年、新しい家を買おうと思っています。 
Rainen, atarashii ie wo kaou to omotte imasu.
I’m thinking of buying a new house next year.

Structure 17 :

Vよう+とする

Explanation:

Just when you want to do something (then) ~
Another action (normally unexpected) occurs.
The following action occurs right after the action V. The time difference between two actions is longer than when we use Vる前に.

Example:

公園に行こうとしたときに、雨が降ってきた。
Kouen ni ikou to shita toki ni, ame ga futte kita.
Just when I was about to go to the park, it started to rain.

テレビを見ようとすると、停電になる。
Terebi wo miyou to suru to, teiden ni naru.
Just when I’m about to watch TV, all the lights go out.

Structure 18 :

Vよう+としない

Explanation:

Not intend to, will not ~

For example:

彼はいくら言っても聞こうとしない。
Kare wa ikura ittemo kikou to shinai.
No matter how much we say, he won’t listen.

あの子は家へ帰ろうとしない。
Ano ko wa uchi e kaerou to shinai.
That child won’t go home.

Structure 19 :

(N/Vて)+ばかり/ばかりだ/ばかりのN/ばかりで

Explanation:

It’s all ~
Can be used both positively and negatively.

For example:

先週は毎日雨ばかりだった。
Senshuu wa mainichi ame bakaridatta.
It was raining every day last week.

彼らは喧嘩してばかりいる。
Karera wa kenka shite bakari iru.
They are always fighting.

あの子は勉強しないでゲームをしてばかりいる。
Anokoha benkyou shinaide geemu wo shite bakari iru.
That child doesn’t study but plays game all day.

Structure 20 :

Nだけしか+Vない

Explanation

There is only N (usually express some pity).

For example: 

今夜は牛乳だけしか飲みませんでした。
Kon’ya wa gyuunyuu dakeshika nomimasendeshita.
I drank only milk tonight.

私は日本語だけしかわかりません。
Watashi wa Nihongo dakeshika wakarimasen.
I only understand Japanese.
