JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 34. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 166:

A。ということは B


It means.
B is concluded from A.

For example:

Kare wa mada kimasen ne. To iu koto wa, kesseki to iu koto desu ne.
He hasn’t come, it means he is absent.

Watashi wa mou osake o nomemasu. To iu koto wa hatachi o sugiterunda ne.
I’m allowed to drink. It means I’m over 20 years old now.

Structure 167:

A。というのは B


It’s because…
The reason is…
Used to explain the situation further.

For example:

Kyou wa ie o derarenaindesu. To iu no wa chichi no guai ga waruku narimashite…
I don’t go out today. It’s because my father’s illness is getting worse.

Boku wa tamago o tabenaindesu. To iu no wa arerugii ga arundesu yo.
He doesn’t eat eggs. It’s because he is allergic to eggs.

Structure 168:

A。したがって B


That’s why.
Formally, mainly used in writing.

For example:

Kare wa majimede seijitsuna hitoda. Shitagatte minna kara shinrai sarete iru.
He is an honest and conscientious. That’s why he is trusted by everyone.

Kyouju wa kyuuyou de koraremasen. Shitagatte kougi wa chuushi desu.
The teacher has something urgent come up. That’s why the class is postponed.

Structure 169:

A。ただし B


Used to add details, notes, exceptions to things have been mentioned before.

For example:

Zenshouhin 3-waribiki desu. Tadashi, kono tana no shouhin wa nozokimasu.
All the products are on sales for 30%. However, products on this shelf is an exception.

Ashita wa 9-ji ni shuugou desu. Tadashi, ame no baai wa chuushi desu.
Tomorrow, gather up at 9 am. However, it case of rain, it will be cancelled.

Structure 170:

A。もっとも B


Used to clarify information declared before.

For example:

Kensa no zen’ya kara inshoku kinshi desu. Mottomo mizu wa nondemo kamaimasen.
Eating the night before the check-up is not allowed. However, drinking water is acceptable.

Zen’in ga sanka shinakereba narimasen. Mottomo byouki no baai wa betsu desu.
Everyone has to participate. However, those who are sick are an exception.
