JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 2. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.
Structure 6 :
V/ A/ N (Short form) +ものだから/もんだから。
Explanation:
Because I think … to advocate, can be replaced by から
ものだから usually used in writing.
もんだから Used in close relationships.
Do not use imperative verbs behind this structure.
For example:
先に帰ってもいいですか。ちょっと用事があるものですから。
Saki ni kaettemo ii desuka. Chotto youji ga aru mono desu kara.
Can I go home first? Because I have something to do.
忙しいものですから、旅行に行けない。
Isogashii mono desu kara, ryokou ni ikenai.
Because I’m too busy, I can’t go on a trip.
遅くなってごめん。道路が混んでいたもんだから。
Osoku natte gomen. Douro ga konde ita mondakara.
Sorry I’m late, the traffic was bad.
Structure 7 :
V/ A/ N (short form) +もの/もん
Explanation:
It’s because ( legitimate reasons).
Normally put at the end of the sentence, in close relationships, to emphasize the legitimacy of the reasons).
Can be used along with だって to show reasons but more flexible.
Used for both genders, but more likely to be used by women and children.
For example:
昨日、洗濯しなかった。雨が降ったんだもの。
Kinou, sentaku shinakatta. Ame ga futtandamono.
Yesterday, I didn’t do the laundry because it rained.
しょうがないよ。子供だもん。
Shouganai yo. Kodomo damon.
There is no other way. It’s because he is a kid.
Structure 8 :
V/ A/ N (short form) +ものの
Explanation:
Even though (although) … however
The latter sentence often has a contradictory meaning.
For example:
新しいペンを買ったものの、ほとんど使わない。
Atarashii pen wo katta monono, hotondo tsukawanai.
Although I bought a new pen, I almost never use it.
この道具は高いものの、よく売れている。
Kono dougu wa takai monono, yoku urete iru.
Although this tool is expensive, it sells well.
Structure 9 :
Nは もとより ~も
Explanation:
Even … let alone
Used to talk about obvious things, facts first to mention other things at the lower level later.
For example:
あの学生は日本語はもとより、フランス語も話せます。
Ano gakusei wa Nihongo wa motoyori, Furansugo mo hanasemasu.
That student can speak not only Japanese, but also French.
私はすしはもとより、さしみも食べられない。
Watashi wa sushi wa motoyori, sashimi mo taberarenai.
I can’t eat sushi, let alone sashimi.
Structure 10 :
N1はともかくN2は/が
Explanation:
Might not be N1 but it’s definitely N2
To cast N1 aside to emphasize the importance of N2.
For example:
この道具は、値段はともかく質が良い。
Kono dougu wa, nedan wa tomokaku shitsu ga yoi.
Regardless of the price, this tool has good quality.
俳優たちの演技はともかく、この映画の内容はとても面白いです。
Haiyuu tachi no engi wa tomokaku, kono eiga no naiyou wa totemo omoshiroi desu.
Regardless of the acting of the actors, the content of this movie is very interesting.
