JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 17. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 81:

Nに わたって/わたり/わたるN


In a relatively wide area.

For example:

Kono taifuu no eikyou de, Kantou chihou wa hiroi han’i ni watatte ooame to naru deshou.
Due to the storm, there will be heavy rain over a wide area in Kanto.

Waga sha wa 20-nenkan ni watari, kono kusuri no kenkyuu kaihatsu ni tsutomete kita.
In 20 years, our company has been researching and developing this medicine.

Structure 82:

V ( minus ます) → Vっこない


Absolutely not.
There is no way.
To strongly oppose.

For example:

Ichinichi de kono hon no bunpou zenbu nante, oboerarekkonai.
It’s absolutely impossible to memorize all the vocabulary in this book in one day.

Ima no jitsuryoku de wa, shiken ni ukarikkonai.
Considering current capacity, it’s impossible to participate in the contest.

Structure 83:

V (minus ます) → Vかねない


Afraid/ Afraid that/ To have a possibility that.
Possible that.
Usually used in writing.

For example:

Sonna hidoi koto mo, ano hito nara ii kanenai.
I’m afraid that person has said such horrible things.

Kono mondai o kaiketsu sezu ni hanatte oitara, kokusai mondai ni nari kanenai.
If this problem is not solved, it can possibly become an international problem.

Structure 84:

V ( minus ます) → かねる


To not V

For example:

Moushiwake arimasen ga, watashi ni wa wakari kanemasu.
I’m very sorry but I don’t understand.

Sono youna go irai wa, ohikiukeshi kanemasu.
I don’t understand this requirement.

Structure 85:

信じ( minus ます) → 信じがたい


Impossible ~/ Really difficult ~

For example:

Kore wa shinji gatai hanashida ga, jijitsu dearu.
This story sounds unbelievable but it’s true.

Hito ga hito no inochi o ubau nante, yurushi gatai.
It’s hard to accept people who take away others’ lives.
