JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 17. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 81:

Nに わたって/わたり/わたるN

Explanation:

In a relatively wide area.
During.

For example:

私は5時間にわたってコンピューターを使った。
Watashi wa 5-jikan ni watatte konpyuutaa wo tsukatta.
I used the computer for 5 hours.

明日は日本全域にわたって大雨が降るそうです。
Ashita wa Nihon zen’iki ni watatte ooame ga furu soudesu.
It seems that there will be heavy rain over Japan tomorrow.

Structure 82:

V ( minus ます) → Vっこない

Explanation:

Absolutely not.
There is no way.
To strongly oppose.

For example:

そんな高いものなんて買えっこないよ。
Sonna takai mono nante kaekkonai yo.
There’s no way I can buy such an expensive thing.

彼は私のことを絶対に忘れっこない。
Kare wa watashi no koto wo zettai ni wasurekkonai.
He’ll never forget me.

Structure 83:

V (minus ます) → Vかねない

Explanation:

Afraid/ Afraid that/ To have a possibility that.
Possible that.
Usually used in writing.

For example:

あの人は人殺しをしかねない。
Ano hito wa hitogoroshi wo shi kanenai.
That person might be a murderer.

彼女はあなたの財布を盗みかねない。
Kanojo wa anata no saifu wo nusumi kanenai.
She might steal your wallet.

この問題を解決せずに放っておいたら、国際問題になりかねない。
Kono mondai wo kaiketsu sezu ni hanatte oitara, kokusai mondai ni naritakunai.
If this problem is not solved, it can possibly become an international problem.

Structure 84:

V ( minus ます) → かねる

Explanation:

To not V

For example:

彼の要求には応じかねます。
Kare no youkyuu ni wa ouji kanemasu.
I can’t meet his demands.

私はそんなことを言いかねます。
Watashi wa sonna koto wo ii kanemasu.
I can’t say that.

Structure 85:

信じ( minus ます) → 信じがたい

Explanation:

Impossible ~/ Really difficult ~

For example:

彼女が試験に落ちるなんて、信じがたい。
Kanojo ga shiken ni ochiru nante, shinji gatai.
It’s hard to believe she fails the exam.

人が人の命をうばうなんて、許しがたい。
Hito ga hito no inochi wo ubau nante, yurushi gatai.
It’s hard to accept people who take away others’ lives.
