Meaning and how to use :

Describe the meaning “only about N2 away…”. It is used to express that the time has come close

Example:

試験は2日に控えてきます。
Shiken ha futsuka ni hikaetekimasu.
The exam is only 2 days away.

彼女に再会する日は一週間に控えてきます。
Kanojo ni saikai suru hi ha isshukan ni hikaete kimasu.
The day to meet her again is only one week away.

試合は一時間にひかえて始まった。
Shiai ha ichijikan ni hikaeete hajimatta.
The match started in one hour.

親が会社から30分に控えて帰るんだ。
Oya ga kaisha kara sanjuppun ni hikaete kaerun da.
Just 30 minutes left before my parents return from the company.

ワールドカップは一月間に控えて開かれます。
Wa-rudokappu wa ichi gekkan ni hikaete aka remasu.
Just one month left before World Cup is held.

Note: Sometimes we can omit the sentence component and this structure becomes「をひかえて」. When modifying nouns, it is in the form「ひかえたN」.
