Meaning and how to use :
Express the meaning ‘just like ..’ Used to explain a state by taking another state as an example, although in reality they are different , but the appearance is very similar.
Examples:
人生はあたかも宇宙がまばたきするのような短い瞬間だ。
Jinsei wa atakamo uchuu ga mabataki suru no youna mijikai shunkanda.
Life is a short moment as if the universe blinks.
今日はあたかも冬の日のようだ。
Kyou wa atakamo fuyu no hi no youda.
Today looks like a winter day.
彼女の姿があたかも目の前に現すかのようだ。
Kanojo no sugata ga atakamo me no mae ni arawasu ka no youda.
Her appearance seemed to appear before my eyes.
それはあたかも一時の夢のごとし。
Sore wa atakamo ichiji no yume nogotoshi.
It was like a temporary dream.
彼の話はあたかも私のことを暗示するかのようだ。
Kare no hanashi wa atakamo watashi no koto wo anji suru ka no youda.
His story sounds like it’s implying me.
Note: Often used in writing or in novels, it is hardly used in intimate speech. When speaking「まるで」、「ごとし」can change into「ごとき」、「ごとく」.
