3. Grammar
~ によると、normal form そうです
Meaning : According to ~ / It’s said that
Example :
天気予報によると、あしたは寒くなるそうです。
Tenkiyohou ni yoru to, ashita wa samuku naru soudesu.
According to weather forecast, it will be cold tomorrow.
V/ Adj/ Nの (normal form) ようです
Meaning : It seems that ~
Usage : conveys the speaker’s subjective conjecture based on the information obtained through his / her sensory organs.
Example :
秋さんはいそがしいようです。
Aki-san wa isogashii youdesu.
It seems that Aki is busy.
秋さんは日本へ行くようです。
Aki-san wa nihon e iku youdesu.
It seems that Aki will go to Japan.
声 / におい / 音 / 味がします
Usage : describes that someone feels something through senses.
Example :
変な音がします。
Hen na oto ga shimasu.
I hear a strange sound.
4. Kaiwa
婚約したそうです
渡辺：お先に 失礼します。
Watanabe: Osakini shitsureishimasu.
高橋：あっ、渡辺さん、ちょっと 待って。僕も 帰りますから・・・。
Takahashi: A, Watanabe-san, chotto matte. Boku mo kaerimasukara.
渡辺：すみません、ちょっと 急ぎますから。
Watanabe: Sumimasen, chotto isogimasukara.

高橋：渡辺さん、このごろ 早く 帰りますね。どうも 恋人が できたようですね。
Takahashi: Watanabe-san, konogoro hayaku kaerimasu ne. Doumo koibito ga dekita youdesu ne.
林：あ、知らないんですか。この間 婚約したそうですよ。
Hayashi: A, shiranai ndesu ka. Konoaida konyaku shita soudesu yo.
高橋：えっ、だれですか、相手は。
Takahashi: E, daredesu ka, aite wa.
林：IMC の 鈴木さんですよ。
Hayashi: Aiemushii no Suzuki-sandesu yo.
高橋：えっ、鈴木さん？
Takahashi: E, suzuki san?
林：去年 渡辺さんの 友達の 結婚式で 知り合ったそうですよ。
Hayashi: Kyonen Watanabe-san no tomodachi no kekkonshiki de shiriatta soudesu yo.
高橋：そうですか。
Takahashi: Soudesuka.
林：ところで、高橋さんは？
Hayashi: Tokorode, Takahashi-san ha?
高橋：僕ですか。僕は 仕事が 恋人です。
Takahashi: Boku desuka. Boku ha shigoto ga koibitodesu.
Translation :
I heard that she has got engaged
Watanabe: I’m going now. Good bye.
Takahashi: Ms. Watanabe, just a moment. I’ll come with you.
Watanabe: I’m sorry but I’m in a hurry.

Takahashi: Ms. Watanabe leaves earlier recently. It looks like she has found a boyfriend.
Hayashi: Oh, don’t you know the news? They say that she got engaged recently.
Takahashi: Really? Who is he?
Hayashi: Mr. Suzuki of IMC.
Takahashi: Mr. Suzuki?
Hayashi: I heard that she met him last year at the wedding reception of one of her friends.
Takahashi: Did she?
Hayashi: By the way, how about you, Mr. Takahashi?
Takahashi: Me? My work is my sweetheart.
