Formation :
Vない(remove ない)+ずにいる
Meaning and how to use :
Describe a status, which keeps going on without action, means “keep not doing…”
for example
1. 半年酒を飲まずにいると、体がだんだん良くなっている。
Hantoshi sake o noma zu ni iru to, karada ga dandan yoku natte iru.
I hasn’t drunk since last year, my health has been improved gradually
2. 出席せずにいるいると、単位をもらえないよ。
shusseki se zu ni iruiru to, tani o morae nai yo.
If you keep on being absent from class, you can’t gain credits.
3. 君は社長に熱心に仕えずにいれば、辞めさせますよ。
kimi ha shachou ni nesshin ni tsukae zu ni ire ba, yamesase masu yo.
If you keep not working enthusiastically for manager, you will be dismissed
4. 朝ご飯を食べずにいると、具合が悪くなって、病気になったよ。
asa gohan o tabe zu ni iru to, guai ga waruku natte, byouki ni natta yo.
If you continue to not eating breakfast, you will feel unwel and get desease.
5. 困っているときは、彼が私を助けずにいる.
komatte iru toki ha, kare ga watashi o tasuke zu ni iru .
He didn’t help me when i was facing difficulty.
Note:
1. しない becomes せずに
2. Usually used in written language
