Meaning and how to use :

1. Describe the meaning “Anyone knows…./ it’s said that… but…”. It denotes the speaker’s criticism or approvement.

For example

子供を激しく叱るなんてよくないだろうに、叱らないと子供が自立できない。
Kodomo o hageshiku shikaru nante yoku nai daro u ni, shikara nai to kodomo ga jiritsu deki nai.
Although anyone knows that punishing children strictly is not good, we don’t, our kids won’t be independent.

外はそんなに暑いだろうに、事務所で彼はエアコンをつけずに働いています。
soto ha sonnani atsui daro u ni, jimusho de kare ha eakon o tsuke zu ni hatarai te i masu.
Anyone knows it’s really hot outside, but he doesn’t even turn on the air-con.

この試合で簡単な道具だけが使用できるだろうにあの人はすばらしい作品が作られた。
kono shiai de kantan na dougu dake ga shiyou dekiru daro u ni ano hito ha subarashii sakuhin ga tsukurare ta.

2. Describe mood, emotion of regret for something not happens. IT’s translated as “Might…/ must have been…”

For example

彼は約束を敗れても、そんなに怒って怒鳴るなんて…もっと優しい方があっただろうに。
kare ha yakusoku o yabure te mo, sonnani okotte donaru nante? motto yasashii hou ga atta daro u ni.

mukashi hisshi ni benkyou shi tara, ima ha isha ka shachou ka ii hito ni natta daro u ni.
if i tried my best on learning in the past, now i could be a good person like a doctor or a director
