あまり+Aな+ではない
あまり+Aい+くない
あまり+Vない

Meaning and how to use :

Describe “not….so much”. Used in lightly negative sentence. In case it goes with verb, it indicates low frequency or not so large number.

For example

アメリカの夏の天気はあまり暑くないね。
Amerika no natsu no tenki ha amari atsuku nai ne.
In the USA, the summer is not so hot.

この町はあまり静かではない町です。
kono machi ha amari shizuka de ha nai machi desu.
This city seem not so quiet.

先生に悪口をするなんてあまりよくない行動ですよ。
sensei ni waruguchi o suru nante amari yoku nai koudou desu yo.
Backbiting the teacher is not a good thing.

彼はいつも家にいます。あまり活発ではない人でしょう。
kare ha itsumo ie ni i masu. Amari kappatsu de ha nai hito desho u.
He’s always at home. He seems not so active.

あの子はあまり話しませんね。
ano ko ha amari hanashi mase n ne.
That child doesn’t talk much.

Note : in spoken language, “あんまり” is often used.
