Describe the suspicion of the speaker. This structure is also used in questions that have question words such as「いつ/どこ/だれ/なに/どう」.
Example:
パソコンを教えられたとおりに直しましたがはたして起動するかどうかしらない。
Pasokon wo oshierareta toori ni naoshimashitaga hatashite kidou suru kadouka shiranai.
I fixed my computer as I was taught, but I don’t know whether I can activate it.
彼はこの条件をはたして同意するだろうか。
Kare ha kono jouken wo hatashite douisuru darouka.
Will he agree to this condition?
はたして物事は彼女が言ったとおりに起こったのかわからない。
Hatashite monogoto ha kanojo ga itta toori ni okotta noka wakaranai.
I don’t know whether everything happened as she said.
はたして田中さんは私が注意したとおりにしただろうか。
Hatashite Tanaka san ha watashi ga chuuishita toori ni shita darou ka.
I wonder whether Mr. Tanaka did as I told him to.
はたして私が書いた本は売れきったでしょうか。
Hatashite watashi ga kaita hon ha urekitta deshouka.
I wonder whether the book I wrote has sold out.
