JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 10. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 46 :

V/N/Aい/Aな)普+にしても注意:Aだ、Nだそれにしても

Explanation:

Even though ~/ given that ~
Used to show: “Given that the case is true”. The latter clause will show a completely contradictory outcome of compared to the predicted assumption.

For example:

これは、100円にしても高いと思う。
For this, 100 yen is till very expensive.

遅れるとは聞いていたけど、それにしても田中さん、遅いね。
I’ve heard that he was going to be late, but Tanaka is really late though.

Structure 47 :

(V/N/Aい/Aな)普+としたら/とすれば

Explanation:

In case that is true/ done, in case that exists then ~
Followed by the speaker’s speculation.

For example:

その話が本当だとしたら、うれしいです。
In case that’s true, then it’s really fun.

飛行機で行くとしたら、いくらぐらいかかりますか。
In case we take a plane, how long would it take?

Structure 48 :

Vる/Vない+つもりだった

Explanation:

To intend to do ~
Used for both the first person and second person.

For example:

昨日は買い物に行くつもりでしたが、頭が痛かったのでずっと家にいました。
I intended to go shopping yesterday, but my head hurt so I stayed home all the time.

お菓子を食べないつもりでしたが、つい食べてしまいました。
I didn’t intend to eat candies, but ended up eating afterwards.

Structure 49 :

(V/N/Aい/Aな)普+はずだ/はずがない注意:Aだな、Nだの

Explanation:

Certainly ~ (Logically)
No wonder ~ (Turned out to be) はずがない: Is it because ~, How come ~ ?

For example:

田中さんは今旅行中だから、家にいないはずだ。
Tanaka is on atrip today so he will certainly not be home.

まじめな田中さんは、無断に休むはずがない。
Tanaka is so hard-working and diligent, he will certainly not take a day off without a justifiable reason.

Structure 50 :

(Vる/Aである/Aくある)+べきだ注意:すべき=するべきだ

Explanation:

Should, need to ~
Used to express an opinion of the speaker about things. If used for others’ behaviour, it means to advise/warn.

For example:

約束は守るべきだ。
Have to keep the promise.
