How to say thank you in Japanese?
To say thank you in Japanese, normally one would say:
有 難う御座います ありがとう ございます arigatou gozaimasu – Thank you!
→ This is a formal case, in some cases, you only need to say ありがとう arigatou!
有 難う御座いました (ありがとうございました arigatou gozaimashita)- Thank you!
→ Used to thank someone for doing you a favor. The phrase ありがとう ございます arigatou gozaimasu is used when someone not necessarily did you a favor but offered to help.
ど うも有難 う御座いました どうも ありがとう ございました. doumo arigatou gozaimashita. Add doumo before arigaou gozaimashita means really thank you.
→ Formal, in case you’re close with the person, we can just say: どうも. This is a shortened form of どうも ありがとう ございました.
すみません sumimasen – Thank you/Sorry!
お 世話になりました osewani narimashita – Thank you!
→ Formal, used to thank your partners, clients, people who help you a lot.
サンキュウ sankyu – Originated from the word Thank you.
→ Informal, used when you’re close with the person.
