Exercise 1: Listen and answer questions
With this exercise, first you need to listen to the question and write down what you have listened and then answer the question according to your own understanding. You should not try to focus on clearly listening to each word of a sentence then missing the following sentences. You should listen it for the first time, answer the questions one by one, with the questions you can’t listen then listening to them the second time. After that, you can listen again and copy the words to improve your listening skill and remember words better. Finally, after listening and answering all questions, you can refer to the translation and the answer below.

Exercise 5: Read the following paragraph and choose true or false
(1) 日光の東照宮は 200年まえに 建てられました。

(3) 東照宮の 「眠り猫」は 左甚五郎 によって 作られました。
(4) 甚五郎は 右手 を 切られてから、左手で 上手に 彫刻を 作りましたから、「左」甚五郎と 呼ばれました。
Translation and Answer
“Sleeping cat” at Nikko Toshogu Paclace
Nikko’s Toshogu Palace was built in the 17th century. The building is magnificent and famous, even inside the building, there are many famous sculptures and paintings. Among them is a work called “Nemuri Neko” (Sleeping cat). It is said that this is the sculpture of a sleeping cat of Hidari Jingoro. He was very good at sculpture when he was young, but his right hand was cut by the bad guys. However, he tried his best to sculpt with his left hand. That’s why he was called “Hidari” Jingoro. The Toshogu Palace doesn’t have a mouse. People said that this is due to Mr. Jingoro’s cat.
