3. Grammar

Passive form

How to conjugate :  

Group I: [う]-column becomes [あ]-column and add れる.

書く　→　書かれる
言う　→　言われる

Group II: Vる becomes Vられる

見る　→　見られる
食べる　→　食べられる

Group III: する　becomes  される
くる becomes　こられる

N1 (people) は N2 (people) に V-passive form.

Meaning : N1 be…. by N2

Example :

私は母にほめられました。
watashi ha haha ni homeraremashita.
I was praised by my mother.

N1 (people) は N2 (people) に N3 を V-passive form.

Meaning : N3 of N1 be…. by N2

Example :

私は弟にパソコンを壊されました。
Watashi ha otouto ni pasokon wo kowasaremashita.
My computer was broken by my brother.

N (object/ thing) が/ は V-passive form.

Usage : When we talk about something and it’s no need to point out the subject of the action, we use N as the topic and use verb to describe.

Example :

日本の車は世界中へ輸出されている。
Nihon no kuruma ha sekaijuu he yushutsu sareteiru.
Cars made in Japan are exported to all over the world.

N1 は N2 (people) によって　V-passive form.

Meaning : N1 be…. by someone (N2).

Example :

電話はベルによって発明されました。
denwa ha beru ni yotte hatsumei saremashita.
Phone was invented by Bell.

N　から/ N で　つくります。

Meaning : Made from N.

Usage :  

から : If looking at the product, we cannot know its materials

で : If looking at the product, we can guess its materials

Example : 

ビールは麦からつくられます。
Bi-ru ha mugi kara tsukuraremasu.
Beer is made from wheat.

はしは木でつくりました。
Hashi ha ki de tsukurimashita.
Chopsticks were made of wood.

4. Kaiwa

海を　埋め立てて　造られました。
umi wo umetate te tsukurare mashi ta.

松本：　シュミットさん、関西空港は　初めてですか。
Matsumoto: shumitto san, kansai kuukou ha hajimete desu ka.

シュミット：　ええ。ほんとうに　海の　上に　あるんですね。
Shumitto: ee. hontou ni umi no ue ni arun desu ne.

松本：　ええ。ここは　海を　埋め立てて　造られた　島なんです。
Matsumoto: ee. koko ha umi wo umetate te tsukurare ta shima nan desu.

シュミット：　すごい　技術ですね。
Shumitto: sugoi gijutsu desu ne.

シュミット：　でも、どうして　海の　上に　造ったんですか。
Shumitto: demo, doushite umi no ue ni tsukuttan desu ka.

松本：　日本は　土地が　狭いし、それに　海の　上なら、騒音の問題が　ありませんからね。
Matsumoto nippon ha tochi ga semai shi, sore ni umi no ue nara, souon no mondai ga ari masen kara ne.

シュミット：　それで　24時間　利用できるんですね。
Shumitto: sorede 24 jikan riyou dekirun desu ne.

松本：　ええ。
Matsumoto: ee.

シュミット：　この　ビルも　おもしろい　デザインですね。
Shumitto: kono biru mo omoshiroi dezain desu ne.

松本：　イタリア人の　建築家に　よって　設計されたんです。
Matsumoto: itaria jin no kenchiku ka ni yotte sekkei sare tan desu.

シュミット：　アクセスは　便利なんですか。
Shumitto: akusesu ha benri nan desu ka.

松本：　大阪駅から　電車で　1時間ぐらいです。
Matsumoto: oosaka eki kara densha de 1 jikan gurai desu.

松本：　神戸からは　船でも　来られますよ。
Matsumoto: koube kara ha fune demo korare masu yo.

Translation :

Was built by reclaiming the sea.

Matsumoto: Mr. Shmidt, is this your first time to the Kansai Airport?

Shmidt: Yeah. It is really located above the sea

Matsumoto: Yeah. This is an island that was built by reclaiming the sea

Shmidt: That’s the great technology.

But why did they build it on the sea?

Matsumoto: Because in Japan, the land is narrow, moreover, there is no problem with noise on the sea.

Shmidt: So you can use it for 24 hours.

Matsumoto: Yeah.

Shmidt: This building also has an interesting design.

Matsumoto: It was designed by an Italian architect.

Shmidt: Is the access convenient?

Matsumoto: It takes about an hour by train from Osaka Station.
