Meaning and how to use :

Describe the meaning “There is no way that…”. Express strong negativity.

Note : In speaking, we often omit particle が and it becomes「わけない」. We can replace this structure grammar with「はずがない」.

Example :

彼はそんなにわがままな人であるわけがない。いつも皆に丁寧で親切なんですよ。
Kare ha sonnani waga mama na hito dearu wake ga nai. Itsumo mina ni teinei de shinsetsu nan desu yo.
He can’t be such a selfish person. He is always polite and kind to everyone.

この耳が長い動物は京都に住むわけがないでしょ。とても寒いところしか住んでいないと教科書で書いてある。
Kono mimi ga nagai doubutsu ha kyouto ni sumu wake ga nai desho. Totemo samui tokoro shika sundeinai to kyoukasho de kaite aru.
These long-eared animals can’t live in Kyoto. It is written in the textbook that they only live in very cold places.

お前はそのままに授業をサボるなんて、テストで高い点を取るわけがない。
Omae ha sono mama ni kyouju wo saboru nante, tesuto de takai ten wo toru wake ga nai.
You can’t get a high score on the test because you keep skipping class like that.

A「あんなに変な説明は皆に認めるわけがないでしょ。」
B「じゃ、私はもう一度説明を書いたらいいだろう。」
A : “Anna ni hen na setsumei ha mina ni mitomeru wake ga nai desho.”
B : “Ja, watashi ha mou ichido setsumei wo kaitara ii darou.”
A : “Everyone won’t accept such a strange explanation.”
B : “Then I’d better write it again.”

こんなに難しい問、バカな彼女は答えるわけがない。
Konna ni muzukashii toi, baka na kanojo ha kotaeru wake ga nai.
A stupid person like her can’t answer such a difficult question.

あのアパートは高くて、普通のサラリマンの私は買うわけがない。
Ano apa-to ha takakute, futsuu no sarariman no watashi ha kau wake ga nai.
That apartment is expensive, so a normal salary man like me can’t buy it.

A「前田くんは俺に嘘をついたよ。」
B「へー、本当?誠実な前田くんは嘘をつくわけがないだろ。」
A : “Maeda kun ha oreni uso wo tsuita yo.”
B : “He-, hontou? seijitsu na maeda kun ha uso wo tsuku wake ganai daro.”
A : “Maeda lied to me.”
B : “Eh? Really? A sincere person like Maeda can’t lie.”

僕は、君のことを忘れるわけがない。
Boku ha, kimi no koto wo wasureru wake ga nai.
I definitely can’t forget you.

父は失業しているので、お金があるわけがない。
Chichi ha shitsugyou shite iru node, okane ga aru wake ga nai.
My father is unemployed, so there is no way that he could have money.

いつも優しい佐藤さんは細かいことで怒るるわけがない。
Itsumo yasashii satou san ha komakai koto de okoru wake ga nai.
A person who is always gentle like Ms. Sato can’t get angry with such little things.

A「石田さんはまだ来ないの。」
B「いつも寝坊するあのやつは時間通りに来るわけがない。」
A : “Ishida san ha mada konai no.”
B : “Itsumo nebou suru ano yatsu ha jikan doori ni kuru wake ga nai.”
A : “Mr. Ishida hasn’t come yet?”
B : “A guy who always oversleeps like him can’t come on time!”

A「電車は8時半駅を出ますよ。」
B「今は8時15分だ。走っても間に合うわけがない。」
A : “Densha ha hachiji eki wo demasu yo.”
B : “Ima ha hachiji juugo fun da. Hashittemo ma ni au wake ga nai.”
A : “The train leaves the station at 8:30.”
B : “It’s 8:15 now. Even if we run, we can’t be in time.”

そんなに大きい責任を新入社員に任せたら、できるわけがない。
Sonna ni ookii sekinin wo shinnyuushain ni makase tara, dekiru wake ga nai.
If you leave such a big responsibility to a new employee, there is no way that they can do it.

5歳の子供を新聞ニュースを読ませたら、読むわけがない。
Gosai no kodomo wo shinbun nyu-su wo yomase tara, yomu wake ga nai.
If you let a 5 years old child read news on newspaper, there’s no way they can read it.

先生は教室にいるわけがない。さっき食堂で見えたよ。
Sensei ha kyoushitsu ni iru wake ga nai. Sakki shokudou de mieta yo.
The teacher can’t be in the classroom. I saw him in the cafeteria a while ago.

A「天気予報によると、今週は晴れるばかりだそうですよ。午後は雨を降るわけがない。」
B「念のために、傘を持ってきます。」
A : “Tenki yohou ni yoru to, konshuu ha hareru bakari da sou desu yo. Gogo ha ame wo furu wake ga nai.”
B : “Nen no tameni, kasa wo motte kimasu.”
A : “According to the weather forecast, it seems to be sunny during this week. It  can’t rain in the afternoon.”
B : “I will bring an umbrella just in case.”

リスクが高いプランは社長に許してくれるわけがないと知っているが、やると決心します。
Risuku ga takai puran ha shachou ni yurushite kureru wake ga nai to shitte iru ga, yaru to keshin shimasu.
I know that the manager can’t allow a high-risk plan, but I am determined do it.

有名ではない歌手に歌われる曲は売れるわけがない。
Yuumei dehanai kahsu ni utawareru kyoku ha ureru wake ga nai.
Songs sung by non-famous singers cannot sell.

この料理はおいしいわけがない。きっと調味料を間違ったと思います。
Kono ryouri ha oishii wake ga nai. Kitto choumiryou wo machigatta to omoimasu.
This dish isn’t delicious. I thought the seasoning was definitely wrong.

A「この方法を使うと、皆は成功できるわけがない。」
B「わかったよ。でも、私はまだ使ってみたい。」
A : “Kono houhou wo tsukau to, mina ha seikou dekiru wake ga nai.”
B : “Wakatta yo. Demo, watashi ha dama tsukatte mitai.”
A : “There is no way that everyone could succeed when using this method.”
B : “I know. But I still want to try using it.”

母はペットにアレルギーがあるので、猫を飼うわけがない。
Haha ha petto ni arerugi- ga aru node, neko wo kau wake ga nai.
My mother is allergic to pets, so I can’t keep a cat.

こんなに多い料理は一人で全部食べるわけがない。
Konna ni ooi ryouri ha hitori de zenbu taberu wake ga nai.
I can’t eat so many dishes by myself.

昼間で私は12時間も寝たので晩は寝るわけがない。
Hiruma de watashi ha juuni jikan mo neta node ban ha neru wake ga nai.
I slept for 12 hours during the day, so I couldn’t sleep at night.

A「社長は辞職したそうだよ。」
B「そんなこと、ぜったいあるわけがない。」
A : “Shachou ha jishoku shita sou da yo.”
B : “Sonna koto, zettai aru wake ga nai.”
A : “It is said that the manager has resigned.”
B : “There’s absolutely no such thing.”
