Meaning and how to use :
Expressing description of the possibility of an event. This way does not describe the level of certainty as 「だろう」、but it can also express a positive meaning about the incident. Conversely, when the situation is less likely to occur, we will use it「だろうか」.
Examples:
1. 彼は大丈夫ではないだろうか。
Kare wa daijoubude wanaidarou ka.
He is okay, isn’t he?
2. 田中さんは私に許すではないだろうか。
Tanaka-san wa watashi ni yurusude wanaidarou ka.
Tanaka will forgive me, won’t he?
3. あの妖しい女の人が犯人ではないだろうかと私は思う。
Ano ayashii onanohito ga hanninde wanaidarou ka to watashi wa omou.
I think is that strange woman might be the perpetrator.
4. 彼のような有望な人を見つけるのは難しいではないだろうか。
Kare no youna yuubouna hito o mitsukeru no wa muzukashiide wanaidarou ka.
Is it difficult to find someone with so much potential like him?
5. あの人は私たちの新しい先生ではないだろうか。
Ano hito wa watashitachi no atarashii senseide wanaidarou ka.
He is our new teacher, isn’t he?
Note: In speaking, we use「(ん)ではないだろうか」
