Meaning and how to use :
Expresses the meaning:
+)だに:affirmative: “only…is enough”
+)だにしない: negative: “can’t do something”. Not even doing a thing
Examples:
1. 私が無意識にした行動はこんな結果が出るとは想像だにしない。
Watashi ga muishiki ni shi ta koudou ha konna kekka ga deru to ha souzou da ni shi nai.
I can’t bring myself to imagine that my unconscious actions can lead to a consequence like this.
2. 解説の一言でも彼は聞くだにしない。
Kaisetsu no hitokoto de mo kare ha kiku dani shi nai.
he doesn’t listen to Even one explanation
3. そんなに怖い夢、考えるだに寝たくない。
Sonnani kowai yume, kangaeru dani ne taku nai.
For a terrifying dream like that, even thinking about it makes me not want to sleep.
4. 私をいじめた人の名前を聞くだに恐ろしい。
Watashi o ijime ta hito no namae o kiku dani osoroshii.
Only hearing the name of the guy who bullied me brings chill down my spine
5. 無くなった家族は思い出すだに心痛だ。
Nakunatta kazoku ha omoidasu dani shintsuu da.
