This structure is used to metaphorically illustrate an explanation for easy understanding. Usually translated as “It feels like…”, “we can say that it’s like…”.

Kono koneko wa iwaba watashitachi no kazoku no ichiinda.
That kitten is like a member of our family.

Kanojo wa iwaba ikite iru jishoda.
She is like a living dictionary.

Ano jiken wa iwaba yume nodesu.
It was like a dream.

4. 彼はいわば仏のような優しい人です。
Kare wa iwaba Futsu no youna yasashii hitodesu.
He is a gentle person like a Buddha.

Gakkou wa iwaba watashinoie youna shitashii kanji ga arimasu.
The school makes me feel almost like my home.
