The N4 JLPT Structure and goal of each section. 

Level N4 is the second lowest level in the JLPT system (above N5 and after N3, N2, N1). Level N4 is used to assess reading comprehension with daily life contexts written by some basic Kanji. Despite being the second lowest level, every year, many people still take the test.

To assist you in practising the level N4, in this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce you to the N4 JLPT structure and goal of each section.

The N4 JLPT Structure consists of 3 main sections

  1. Language knowledge (time frame: 30 minutes)
  2. Reading comprehension (time frame: 65 minutes)
  3. Listening (time frame: 35 minutes)

1. Language knowledge – 4 segments

1.1 Reading Kanji

– Goal: Assessing reading Kanji ability.

– Number of questions: About 9.

– Goal: Assessing the ability to write Hiragana using Kanji.

– Number of questions: About 6.

– Goal: Assessing reading comprehension in a context.
