3. Grammar

V-ます remove ます + そうです
Adj-い remove い + そうです
Adj-な remove な ＋ そうです

Meaning : looks ~

Usage : guess by seeing.

Example :

雨が降りそうです。
Ame ga furi soudesu.
It looks like it will rain.

この料理はおいしそうです。
Kono ryouri wa oishi soudesu.
This dish looks delicious.

この問題は複雑そうです。
Kono mondai wa fukuzatsu soudesu.
This problem looks complicate.

Vてきます

Meaning : go to somewhere doing something and then turn back

Example :

ちょっとたばこを買ってきます。
Chotto tabako o katte kimasu.
I’m just popping out to buy some cigarettes.

N (place) へ行って来ます

Meaning : go to somewhere and then turn back.

Example :

郵便局へ行って来ます。
Yuubinkyoku e itte kimasu.
I’m going to the post office (and coming back).

4. Kaiwa

優しそうですね

シュミット：それ、何の　写真ですか。
Shumitto: Sore, nan no shashin desuka.

渡辺：お見合い写真です。お見合いの　会社から　もらって　来たんです。
Watanabe: Omiaishashin desu. Omiai no kaisha kara moratte kitan desu.

シュミット：お見合いの　会社が　あるんですか。
Shumitto: Omiai no kaisha ga arun desuka.

渡辺：ええ。会員に　なると、自分の　情報や　希望が　コンピューターに　入れられるんです。そして、コンピューターが　適当な　人を　選んで　くれるんですよ。
Watanabe: Ee. Kaiin ni naru to, jibun no jouhou ya kibou ga konpyuutaa ni hairerarerun desu. Soshite, konpyuutaa ga tekitou na hito o erande kurerun desu yo.

シュミット：へえ、おもしろそうですね。
Shumitto: Hee, omoshiro soudesune.

渡辺：この　人、どう　思いますか。
Watanabe: Kono hito, dou omoimasuka.

シュミット：ハンサムだし、優しそうだし、すてきな　人ですね。
Shumitto: Hansamu dashi, yasashi soudashi, suteki na hito desune.

渡辺：ええ。年齢も、収入も、趣味も　わたしの　希望に　ぴったりなんです。そのうえ　名前も　同じなんですよ。渡辺さんと　いうんです。
Watanabe: Ee. Nenrei mo, shuunyuu mo, shumi mo watashi no kibou ni pittarinan desu. Sonoue namae mo onajinan desu yo. Watanabe-san to iun desu.

シュミット：へえ、コンピューターは　すごいですね。
Shumitto: Hee, konpyuutaa wa sugoi desune.

Translation :

He looks kind

Schimdt: What photo is that?

Watanabe: It’s a picture for a marriage arrangement. A marriage arrangement company selected it for me.

Schimdt: Is there a marriage arrangement company?

Watanabe: Yes. When you join, they put your information into a computer, as well as your preferences concerning your future partner and so on.

Schimdt: That sounds interesting.

Watanabe: What do you think about this man?

Schimdt: He is handsome and looks kind. A nice man!

Watanabe: Yes. His age and income and hobbies just meet my requirements. Besides his surname is the same as mine, “Watanabe”.

Schimdt: Hmm… Computers are amazing!
