V1る / V1ない ように、 V2
Meaning : in order to
Usage : Indicates goals we try to meet. Verbs placed before ように are usually in potential form.
Example :
覚えるように、毎日練習します。
oboeru youni, mainichi renshuu shimasu.
Practice every day to remember.
忘れないように、メモします。
watsurenai youni, memoshimasu.
In order not to forget, note down.
Vる / Vなく+ ように なります。
Meaning : to turn into, to come to be that
Usage :
Vる/ Vなく+ ように なります : It is used to talk about new habits, something that was done in the past but isn’t done now and vice versa.
V (potential form) + ように なります : Describe the meaning “something that changed from impossible state into possible state”.
Example :
やっと自転車に乗れるようになりました。
yatto jitensha ni noreru yoni narimashita.
Finally I can ride a bicycle.
Vる / Vない + ように します。
Meaning : to try to do something
Usage : It is used to talk about trying to do or not to do something.
Example :
毎日日本語を勉強するようにします。
Mainichi nihongo wo benkyou suru youni shimasu.
I try to learn Japanese every day.
とか
Meaning : such as
Usage : Used to list some related examples.
Example :
どんなスポーツをしていますか。
donna supo-tsu wo shiteimasu ka
What kind of sport are you playing?
テニスとか水泳とか。。。
Tenisu toka suiei toka…
Tennis or swimming.
4. Kaiwa
片づけるのが 好きなんです
大学職員：ワット先生、回覧です。
Daigaku shokuin: Watto sensei, kairan desu.
ワット：あ、すみません。そこに 置いといて ください。
Watto: A, sumimasen. Soko ni oitoite kudasai.
大学職員：先生の 研究室は いつも きれいですね。
Daigaku shokuin: Sensei no kenkyuushitsu wa itsumo kirei desune.
ワット：わたしは 片づけるのが 好きなんです。
Watto: Watashi wa katadzukeru no ga suki nan desu.
大学職員：本も きちんと 並べて あるし、物も 整理して 置いてあるし．．．。整理するのが 上手なんですね。
Daigaku shokuin: Hon mo kichinto narabete arushi, mono mo seiri shite oite arushi…. Seiri suru no ga jouzu nan desune.
ワット：昔 「上手な 整理の 方法」と いう 本を 書いたことが あるんです。
Watto: Mukashi “jouzu na seiri no houhou” to iu hon o kaita koto ga arun desu.
大学職員：へえ、すごいですね。
Daigaku shokuin: Hee, sugoi desune.
ワット：あまり 売れませんでしたけどね。よかったら、１冊 持って 来ましょうか。
Daigaku shokuin: Amari uremasendeshita kedone. Yokattara, issatsu motte kimashouka.

大学職員：おはよう ございます。
Watto: Ohayou gozaimasu.
ワット：あ、本を 持って 来るのを 忘れました。すみません。
Daigaku shokuin: A, hon o motte kuru no o wasuremashita. Sumimasen.
大学職員：いいですよ。でも、回覧に はんこを 押すのを忘れないで ください。先月も 押してありませんでしたよ。
Daigaku shokuin: iidesu yo. Demo, kairan ni hanko o osu no o wasurenaide kudasai. Sengetsu mo oshite arimasendeshita yo.
Translation :
I like cleaning up
University staff: Mr. Watt, this is the circular notice.
Watt: Oh, Thank you. Please leave it there.
University staff: Your lab is always clean.
Watt: Because I like cleaning up.
University staff: The books are arranged neatly, and things are also arranged tidily… You are good at organizing.
Watt: I once wrote a book called “Ways of organizing well”
University staff: That’s amazing.
Watt: But it didn’t sell very well. Would you like me to bring you one?

University staff: Good morning.
Watt: Oh, I forgot to bring you the book. I’m sorry.
University staff: It’s okay. But don’t forget to stamp a seal on the circular notice. You didn’t stamp a seal last month.
