Vる/Vない/Adj/Nの + とき、~~.
Meaning : When ~
Usage : Use to connect two clauses. The clause before [とき] describes the time when the action or the state behind [とき] occurs.
Example:
子供のとき、よく川でお泳ぎました
Kodomo no toki, yoku kawa de oyogimashita.
When I was a child I, used to swim in the river.
若いとき、あまり勉強しませんでした。
Wakai toki, amari benkyou shimansen deshita.
When I was young, I did not study much.
Vる/Vた + とき、~
Meaning : When ~
Usage :
Vる + とき: Use to express unfinished act
Vた + とき: Use to express finished act
Example:
国へ帰るとき、かばんを買いました。
Kuni he kaerutoki, kaban wo kaimasu
I bought a bag when returning to my country.
国へ帰ったとき、かばんを買いました。
Kuni he kaetta toki, kaban wo kaimashita.
I bought a bag when I returned to my country.
Vる と、~~
Meaning : ~ is ~/ ~ then ~
Usage : Use to connect two clauses to indicate an inevitable result of an action
Example:
これを回すと、音が大きくなりました。
Kore wo mawasu to, oto ga ookiku narimashita.
When you turn this, the sound became louder.
N が Adj/V
Usage: express the topic when describing a state
音が小さいです。
Oto ga chiisai desu.
The sound is small.
この家がきれいですね。
Kono ie ga kirei desu ne.
This house is beautiful.
N (place) を V (movement)
Usage : express the place where people pass
Often goes with verbs: さんぽします, あるきます, わたります…
Example:
公園を散歩します。
Kouen wo sanpo shimasu.
I take a walk in the park.
橋をわたりました。
Hashi wo watarimashita.
I crossed the bridge.
4. Kaiwa
どうやって いきますか
図書館の人：はい、みどり図書館です。
Toshokan no hito : Hai, midori toshokan desu.
カリナ：あのう、そちらまで どうやって 行きますか。
Karina : Anou, kochira made douyatte ikimasuka?
図書館の人：本田駅から12番のバスに乗って、図書館前で降りてください。３つ目です。
Toshokan no hito : Honda eki kara juuni ban no basu ni notte, toshokan mae de oritekudasai. Mittsu me desu.
カリナ：３つ目ですね。
Karina : Mittsu me desu ne.
図書館の人：ええ、降りると、前に公園があります。
図書館はその公園の中の白い建物です。
Toshokan no hito : Ee, oriru to , mae ni kouen ga arimasu.Toshokan ha sono kouen no naka no shiroi tatemono desu.
カリナ：わかりました。それから 本 を 借りるとき、何か 要りますか。
Karina : Wakarimashita..Sorekara hon wo kariru toki, nani ka irimasuka?
図書館の人：外国の方 ですか。
Toshokan no hito : Gaikoku no kata desu ka?
カリナ：はい。
Karina: Hai
図書館の人：じゃ、外国人登録証を 持って来てください。
Toshokan no hito: Ja, gaikokujin tourokushou wo motte wo kitekudasai.
カリナ：はい。どうもありがとうございました。
Karina : Hai. Doumo arigatou gozaimashita.
Translation:
How do I get there?
Library staff: Yes, this is Midori Library.
Karina: Excuse me, could you show me how to get there?
Library staff: Take the bus number 12 from Honda Station and get off at the library. It’s the third stop.
Karina: The third stop, isn’t it?
Library staff: Yes, there is a park in front of you when you get off.
The library is the white building in the park.
Karina: I got it.
And do I need anything when borrowing a book?
Library staff: Are you foreigner?
Karina: Yes.
Library staff: Well, please bring your foreigner registration card.
Karina: Yes. Thank you very much.
