Meaning and how to use :

Expresses the meaning of “whatever/however … though …. Use with two similar repeating or two contrasting events. The latter often uses expressions of determination, will, judgments.

Examples:

皆は反対しようが禁止しようが私たちは最後までがんばる。
Mina ha hantai shiyo u ga kinshi shiyo u ga watashi tachi ha saigo made ganbaru.
No matter how you oppose and forbid, we will try hard until the end.

台風が来ようと地震が起ころうと大会に見に行きます。
Taifuu ga koyo u to jishin ga okoro u to taikai ni mi ni iki masu.
Whether it be storm or earthquake, I will still attend the convention.

子共が泣こうがわめこうが私は絶対に子供の無理な要求を叶いません。
Ko domo ga nako u ga wameko u ga watashi ha zettai ni kodomo no muri na youkyuu o kanai mase n.
Whether my child cry or yell, I absolutely won’t approve of his/her absurd request.

嫌われようと疎まれようと今日絶対に彼女の本質を明かす。
Kirawareyo u to utomareyo u to kyou zettai ni kanojo no honshitsu o akasu.
Whether I will be hated or isolated, today I will reveal her true face.

=叱られろうが殴られろうが母の見っともないことを皆の前に話す。
Shikarare rou ga nagurare rou ga haha no mi tto mo nai koto o mina no mae ni hanasu.
Whether I be yelled at or be beaten, today I will say the embarrassing things of my mom in front of everybody.

Note:
Used mostly in writings, in contrast to the structure 「ても…ても」 which is mostly used in verbal communications. However, there are cases where these two structures are unsubstitutable.
