Vようが／と＋Vるまいが／と
Meaning and how to use :
Expresses the meaning “no matter what action you take …”. This structure uses the same assertion of the same verb.
Examples:
君が同意しようが同意するまいが皆は全員同意したから、プログラムが行い続けます。
Kimi ga doui shiyo u ga doui suru mai ga mina ha zenin doui shi ta kara, puroguramu ga okonaitsuduke masu.
Whether you approve or not, everyone has approved so the show will continue being held.
気に入ろうと入るまいと、過半数の意見のとおりに決められる。
Kiniiro u to hairu mai to, kahansuu no iken no toori ni kimerareru.
Whether you like it or not, the decision is in the majority.
雪が降ろうが降るまいが明日出かけます。
Yuki ga kudaro u ga furu mai ga ashita dekake masu.
Whether snow falls or not, I will still go out tomorrow.
あなたが忘れようと忘れるまいと私はもう一度注意します。
Anata ga wasureyo u to wasureru mai to watashi ha mouichido chuui shi masu.
Whether you forget or not, I’ll remind you again.
奨学金をもらおうともらうまいと留学するつもりだ。
Shougaku kin o morao u to morau mai to ryuugaku suru tsumori da.
Whether I get the scholarship or not, I will still go study abroad.
Note:
Used mostly in writings, in contrast to the structure 「ても…ても」 which is mostly used in verbal communications. However, there are cases where these two structures are unsubstitutable.
