Formation :
Vます（ます）＋ようがない／ようもない
Usage
Vます (remove ます) + ようがない
Meaning: Describe the meaning “there’s no way to…”. It is used when you want to talk about something that seems impossible.
Note : For Chinese characters verbs, we can use the form「Vのしようがない」
Example :
1. こんなに勧めしたら、前に戻りようがないでしょう。
Konna ni susume shi tara, mae ni modori you ga nai deshou.
If it’s already like this, we can’t go back anymore.
2. テストを提出したからには、結果を直しようがないから、提出する前にもう一度チェックしてください。
Tesuto wo teishutsu shita kara niha, kekka wo naoshi you ga nai kara, teishustu suru mae ni mou ichido chekku shite kudasai.
After submitting the test, there’s no way to fix the results, so please check the test again before submitting.
3. あんなに曖昧な表現なら分かりようがない。
Anna ni aimai na hyougen nara wakari you ga nai.
I can’t understand such a ambiguous expression.
4. A「あの人の病気がこんな段階になったら治しようがないと思いましたが、結局奇跡が起こった。」
B「すごいですね。」
A : “Ano hito no byouki ga konna kaidan ni nattara naoshi you ga nai to omoimashita ga, kekkyoku kiseki ga okotta.”
B : “Sugoi desu ne.”
A : “I thought that it was impossible to cure if his illness reached this stage, but eventually a miracle happened.”
B : “That’s amazing”.
5. 今日はバスが来ないので学校に行きようがない。
Kyou ha basu ga konai node gakkou ni iki you ga nai.
I have no way to go to school because the bus doesn’t come today.
6. 英語もフランス語も話せないので外国人のお客と相談のしようがない。
Eigo mo furansu go mo hanasenai node gaikokujin no okyaku to soudan no shiyou ga nai.
I can’t speak English and French, so I can’t discuss with foreign customers.
7. 仕事を全部済ませなかったら、故郷へ帰りようがない。
Shigoto wo zenbu sumase nakattara, kokyou he kaeri you ga nai.
If I don’t finish all my work, I can’t return to my hometown.
8. 帰る途中で猛烈な雨に降られて、傘も持ってないので家に帰りようがない。
Kaeru tochuu de mouretsu na ame ni furarete, kasa mo motteinai node ie ni kaeri you ga nai.
It was raining heavily on my way home, and because I didn’t have an umbrella, I couldn’t go home.

9. 田中さんのメールや電話番号や住所なども知らないので、連絡しようがない。
Tanaka san no me-ru ya denwa bangou ya juusho nado mo shiranai node, renraku shi you ga nai.
I don’t know Mr. Tanaka’s email, phone number or address, so I can’t contact him.
10. お腹がいっぱいのでもう食べようがない。
Onaka ga ippai node mou tabe you ga nai.
I can’t eat anymore because I’m full.
11. A「彼氏との関係はもう修理しようがないでしょ。」
B「こんなに悲観的に考えないで…」
A : “Kareshi to no kankei ha mou shuuri shi you ga nai desho.”
B : “Konna ni hikanteki ni kangae nai de…”
A : “There’s no way to fix my relationship with my boyfriend.”
B : “Don’t think so pessimistic…”
12. 家の鍵を落とした場所さえ知らなければ、探しようがない。
Ie no kagi wo otoshita basho sae shirana kereba, sagashi you ga nai.
If you don’t even know where you dropped the house key, there’s no way to find it.
13. 問題がめっちゃ難しいから、すぐに答えようがない。
Mondai ga meccha muzukashii kara, sugu ni kotae you ga nai.
The question is so difficult that I can’t answer it immediately.
14. あんなひどいこと、彼女に言いようがない。ショックさせたくないんです。
Anna hidoi koto, kanojo ni ii you ga nai. Shokku sase takunain desu.
I can’t tell her that terrible thing. I don’t want to shock her.
15. このスペイン語の文の意味は日本語で説明しようがない。
Kono supein go no bun no imi ha nihongo de setsumei shi you ga nai.
I can’t explain the meaning of this Spanish sentence in Japanese.
16. 何度も彼の悪い行動を注意したのに全然変わらない、今度許しようがない。
Nando mo kare no warui koudou wo chuui shita noni zenzen kawaranai, kondo yurushi you ga nai.
I have reminded him many times about his bad behavior but he doesn’t change at all, I can’t forgive him this time .

17. 彼はこんなに他の人のことを信じないので、私が話をかけようがない。
Kare ha konna ni hoka no hito no koto wo shinji nai node, watashi ga hanashi wo kake you ga nai.
He doesn’t believe in others so much, so there’s no way to talk to him.
18. 救いたくても救いようがない。
Sukui taku temo sukui you ga nai.
Although I want to save, there’s no way to save.
19. 警察はあのやつは犯人だと信じるが、アリバイがあるので逮捕しようがない。
Keisatsu ha ano yatsu ha hannin da to shinji ru ga, aribai ga aru node taiho shi you ga nai.
The police believe that guy is the criminal, but he has alibi, so they can’t arrest him.
20. 台風を前に広告されるたが、防ぎようがない。
Taifuu wo mae ni koukoku sareta ga, fusegi you ga nai.
Although everyone was informed of the storm in advance, there’s no way to prevent it.
21. 田中さんの深い意味を他人に解釈しようがない。
Tanaka san no fukai imi wo tanin ni kaishaku shi you ga nai.
I have no way to explain the deep meaning of Mr. Tanaka to others.
22. 仕事が忙しくて時間がギリギリで体操しようがない。
Shigoto ga isogashikute jikan ga girigiri de taisou shi you ga nai.
The work is busy and the time is always urgent, so I can’t work out.
あんな悲惨な場面、なにか起こったか想像のしようがない。
Anna hisan na bamen, nani ka okotta ka souzou no shi you ga nai.
I can’t imagine what happened in such a miserable scene.
23. A「中村監督の新しい映画、言いようがないほどおもしろいね。」
B「そうですね。すばらしいですね。」
A : “Nakamura kantoku no atarashii eiga, ii you ga nai hodo omoshiroi desu ne.”
B : “Soudesu ne. subarashii desu ne.”
A : “Director Nakamura’s new movie is so interesting that I can’t say anything.”
B : “That’s right. It’s wonderful.”
