Meaning and how to use :
Expresses the meaning “The latter clause happens almost at the same time with the former clause.”
Examples:
息子は家に入るが早いか、「ただいま」と大声で叫んだ。
Musuko ha ie ni hairu ga hayai ka, ‘tadaima’ to oogoe de saken da.
My son came on and immediately shouted “I’m home”.
彼は起きるが早いか、そそっかしく朝ご飯を食べて、学校に行きます。
Kare ha okiru ga hayai ka, sosokkashiku asa gohan o tabe te, gakkou ni iki masu.
He woke up and quickly ate breakfast and went to school in a rush.
彼女は電話をかけるが早いか、出かけます。
Kanojo ha denwa o kakeru ga hayai ka, dekake masu.
She was just phoned and went outside.
あの人はドアを開けて、私たちの姿を見えるが早いか、ドアを閉めてしまった。
Ano hito ha doa o ake te, watashi tachi no sugata o mieru ga hayai ka, doa o shime te shimatta.
He just opened and closed the door almost immediately after he saw us.
5時を示す時計を見るがはいやか、山田さんは道に飛び出します。
Go ji o shimesu tokei o miru ga ha iya ka, yamada san ha michi ni tobidashi masu.
Mr. Yamada went right out to the road after he saw the clock hitting 5 o’clock.
