Meaning and how to use :
1. To be used to turn a sentence into a question, and then make it a part of another sentence.
Only used with: Question words (Wh)+…+か
For example
今は何時だか知っていますか。
Ima ha nan ji da ka shitte i masu ka.
Do you know what time it is now?
さっき誰がここに電話したかわかりません。
sakki dare ga koko ni denwa shi ta ka wakari mase n.
I don’t know who had phoned me before.
2. Describe the meaning “something, someone, place, position (base on the question word),…” that is unclear, incorporeal, or is uneccessary to say.
Only used with: Wh+…+か
For example
この話はいつか君と話しただろう。
kono hanashi ha itsuka kun to hanashi ta daro u.
maybe I have told you that story at some point.
私はお前たちのお父さんに出あうところは埼玉県のどこかですよ。
watashi ha omae tachi no otousan ni deau tokoro ha saitama ken no doko ka desu yo.
I met your father somewhere in Saitama comic.
3. Describe an unclear number, not so large.
Only used with: 何+counting unit+か/いくつか
For example
この作家の小説を何冊か貸してよ。ほんとうにケチだね。
kono sakka no shousetsu o nan satsu ka kashi te yo. Hontou ni kechi da ne.
Lend me these books. What a stingy person.
男である以上ビルは何本か飲まなきゃならない。
otoko de aru ijou biru ha nan hon ka noma nakya nara nai.
If you are a man, you are supposed to be able to drink certain bottles of beer.
