Meaning and how to use :
1. Expressing meaning “just before an action occurs, another action takes place”. Action behind is often an unexpected, unexpected action.
Ex:
舞台に行って、賞をもらおうとしたところで、審査官は賞をもらえる人が間違ったと報告した。

Ikura sono koto wo uchikesou to shita tokoro de, mina wa zenbu jijitsu wo shitteita.
No matter how much you tried to disprove, everyone knew the truth.
いくらがんばろうとしたところで、失敗してばかりいる。
Ikura ganbarou to shita tokoro de, shippai shite bakari iru.
No matter how much I try, I failed many times.
いくら練習しようとしたところで、結局、彼女に負けただけだ。
Ikura renshuu shiyou to shita tokoro de, kekkyoku, kanojo ni maketa dakeda.
No matter how much I tried to practice, the outcome was only lost to her.
