Meaning and how to use :

Describing the speaker’s certain speculation.

Examples:

田中社長が辞職すると田中さんはまず次の社長になる間違いあるまい。
Tanaka shachou ga jishoku suruto Tanaka-san wa mazu tsugi no shachou ni naru machigai arumai.
The moment President Tanaka resigns, Mr. Takahashi will sure to become the next president first.

私の意見に賛成する人がまずあるまい。
Watashi no iken ni sansei suru hito ga mazu arumai.
Probably no one will agree with my opinion.

そんなにいいチャンスならあのやつはまず無視にするまい。
Sonnani ii chansunara ano yatsu wa mazu mushi ni surumai.
That guy won’t probably ignore the good opportunity like that.

社長はまずこんなミスを簡単に認めるまい。
Shachou wa mazu konna misu wo kantan ni shitatamerumai.
The director will not accept such a mistake easily.

田中さんは昨日私に風邪をひってしまったことを言ったので今日まず出席するまい。
Tanaka-san wa kinou watashi ni kaze wo hi tte shimatta koto wo ittanode kyou mazu shusseki surumai.
Yesterday Tanaka told me that he was sick, so he may not go to class today.

Note: 「まず…まい」also means「まず…ないだろう」, but it is formal and used in writing. When not going with「だろう」 the speculation is stronger and more certain.
