JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 16. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 76:

Vる/Vない/ Nという + ことになっている

Explanation:

Decided by others, some organization.

For example:

明日、ここで卒業式が行われることになっている。
Tomorrow, the graduation ceremony will be held here.

60点以上が合格ということになっている。
60 points is the passing score.

Structure 77:

V/ A/ N (short form)に すぎない

Explanation:

Not too / Limited in / Only, just.

For example:

単なる言い間違いにすぎない。
It’s simply just a slip of tongue.

簡単な日常英会話ができるにすぎない。
I can only speak conversational English.

Structure 78:

Nに/ Vるに + あたって/あたり/あたっては/あたってのN

Explanation:

In the occasion of, when.

For example:

図書館の利用にあたり、図書カードが必要です。
To use the library, you need to have a library card.

アルバイトをするにあたっては、学業や体に無理のないようにすること。
When doing a part-time job, you need to make sure it doesn’t affect your studying and health.

Structure 79:

Nに 沿って(そって)/沿い/沿ったN

Explanation:

Based on.
To rely on.
According to (instruction book)
To follow (orderly)

For example:

資料に沿って、ご説明いたします。
We are going to explain based on the materials.

お客様ひとりひとりのご希望の沿った旅行プランをお作りします。
We will plan based on each particular customer’s expectations.

Structure 80:

Nに/ Vるに + 先立って(さきだ)/先立ち/先立つN

Explanation:

Before ~
To prepare something beforehand.

For example:

開店に先立ち、関係者だけのパーティーが行われた。
Before opening the store, a party was held for only related people.

新製品の開発に先立って、アンケート調査を行った。
Before developing a new product, we have to open a survey.
