Meaning and how to use :
Expresses the meaning “Worth/doesn’t worth,..”. Used when wanting to describe an action that deserves the corresponding results.
Examples:
強い敵を勝てるなんて一所懸命練習した甲斐がある。
Tsuyoi teki o kateru nante isshokenmei renshuu shi ta kai ga aru.
It is worthwhile to practice hard to win a strong enemy.
やっと彼は同意しました。私が毎日も諭した甲斐がある。
Yatto kare ha doui shi mashi ta. Watashi ga mainichi mo satoshi ta kai ga aru.
Finally he agreed. It is worthwhile to advise every day.
子供をちゃんと育てた甲斐もなく、今彼らはいい成人になった。
Kodomo o chanto sodate ta kai mo naku, ima karera ha ii seijin ni natta.
It was worth it to nurture my children properly, now they have become proper adults.
３月間も準備の甲斐もなく、スピーチコンテストで一位が無事に得られた。
San gekkan mo junbi no kai mo naku, supīchi kontesuto de ichi i ga buji ni erare ta.
My efforts for preparing for the whole 3 months were worth it, I got first place at the eloquence contest
何度も直す甲斐があって、僕の作文が選ばれた。
Nan do mo naosu kai ga atte, boku no sakubun ga erabare ta.
It was worth it to fix it over and over, my essay was selected.
Note:
In the negative form, 甲斐がない means “wasted time/effort.., expresses the efforts/time that are wasted doing something not worthy.”
