Meaning and how to use :
Mean “hear about that/It’s said that…”, is the way to convey information, confirm information that we hear from other people.
For example
1. 来年Aさんは結婚するんだってよ。
Rainen A san ha kekkon suru n datte yo.
I heard that mr.A will get married next year.
2. 「あの子は父を亡くしたんだって。お気の毒に。」
ano ko ha chichi o nakushi ta n da tte. O kinodoku ni. ‘
“It’s said that the child’s father was dead. Poor him”
3. 隣の留学している娘さんは奇麗なんだって。本当に会いたいね。
tonari no ryuugaku shi te iru musume san ha kirei na n da tte. Hontouni ai tai ne.
I heard that our neighbor’s daughter, who is studying abroad, is very beautiful. I’m so eager to meet her.
4. 「彼は病気なんだって」「それで学校に行かないね」
tonari no ryuugaku shi te iru musume san ha kirei na n da tte. Hontouni ai tai ne.
“He’s said to be ill””therefore he doesn’t come to class”
5. 今北京はとても寒いんだって。
imakita miyako ha totemo samui n da tte.
People say that it’s very cold now in Beijing
Note : This structure is used with people who we are famililar with, but not with the superiors (even in the case we put “です”, we use “~そうです” instead).
Women usually use “なのだって”,”なのですって”。
