Meaning and how to use :
Expresses the meaning “Extremely../ very../ the ultimate, nothing goes beyond this.”. This structure is only used with some limited nouns.
Examples:
そんなに大きい歓迎会を開いてくれて、感激の極みだ。
Sonnani ookii kangei kai o hirai te kure te, kangeki no kiwami da.
I’m very much appreciated that you guys held this welcome party for me.
客はどっとレストランに入って、混乱の極みです。
Kyaku ha dotto resutoran ni haitte, konran no kiwami desu.
Due to the sudden number of guest in the restaurant, the restaurant was pretty chaotic.
この家ではコップまでもゴールドで作られました。贅沢の極みだ。
Kono ie de ha koppu made mo gōrudo de tsukurare mashi ta. Zeitaku no kiwami da.
Even the cups are made of gold in this house. So luxurious.
電車事故で家族全員を無くなり、本当に悲嘆の極みだ。
Densha jiko de kazoku zenin o nakunari, hontouni hitan no kiwami da.
Due to the train accident that I lost all of my family, it was extremely depressing.
息子はどこから悪いことを習って、今は家出をしています。子供をもっと感心しなくて、痛恨の極みだ。
Musuko ha doko kara warui koto o naratte, ima ha iede o shi te i masu. Kodomo o motto kanshin shi naku te, tsuukon no kiwami da.
My son learned bad things from somewhere and now he ran away from home. I regret so much that I didn’t care more for my children.
