Meaning and how to use :
1. Expresses the meaning “In situations, N..”. In cases where this structure is used to describe a dire situation, the latter clause describe a disadvantageous situation. This structure is used mostly in literary works.
Examples:
戦争にあっては、国民はとても苦しくて、どこでも餓死した人もたくさんいます。
Sensou ni atte ha, kokumin ha totemo kurushiku te, doko demo gashi shi ta hito mo takusan i masu.
In the war people live in very harsh condition, there are starving people everywhere.
豊かな地にあっては、住んでいる人は何も悩むことはない。
Yutaka na chi ni atte ha, sun de iru hito ha nani mo nayamu koto ha nai.
In rich lands, people who live there don’t have to worry about anything.
平和にあっては、だれも穏やかでゆっくりに過ごせる。
Heiwa ni atte ha, dare mo odayaka de yukkuri ni sugoseru.
In the time of peace, everyone lives slow and in harmony.
2. Expresses the meaning “No one is better than N”. N in this structure indicates a person. Can also say 「にかかっては」 instead of 「にあっては」.
Examples:
山田さんにあっては、より力が強い人はいないだろう。
Yamada san ni atte ha, yori chikara ga tsuyoi hito ha i nai daro u.
For Yamada, there’s no one stronger than him.
あの人にあっては、クイズの解ける時間の早さについてどんなに恵まれる人でも勝てない。
Ano hito ni atte ha, kuizu no tokeru jikan no haya sa nitsuite donnani megumareru hito demo kate nai.
For a person, no one is better than him at solving quizz fast.
息子にあっては、勉強の勤勉さについて誰にも負けないでしょう。
Musuko ni atte ha, benkyou no kinben sa nitsuite dare ni mo make nai desho u.
For my son, he studies harder than everyone else
