Formation :
Meaning and how to use :
1.This is word asking about position, place of a noun or an event. “どこ” means “where” , “どちら” means “in which way” but sometimes it means “where”. The answer usually contains word indicating direction, position.
For example
1.A:「事務所はどこですか」
B:「あそこです。」
Ichi.Ei: ‘jimusho ha doko desu ka’
bī: ‘asoko desu.’
1. A: “Where is the office?”
B: “Over there”
2.A:「すみません、山田先生はどこですか。」
B:「あ、山田先生は家に帰りました。」
ni.Ei: ‘sumimasen, yamada sensei ha doko desu ka.’
bī: ‘a, yamada sensei ha ie ni kaeri mashi ta.’
2. A: “Excuse me, where is teacher Yamada”
B: “Oh, teacher Yamada has gone home.”
3.A:「ちょっと聞きたいことがありますが、トイレはどちらですか。」
B:「そちらですよ。」
san.Ei: ‘chotto kiki tai koto ga ari masu ga, toire ha dochira desu ka.’
bī: ‘sochira desu yo.’
3. A: “I have something wanna ask, where is the toilet?”
B: “Over there.”
2.” and ” is used to ask name of a country, company, school, destination, organization that the listener belongs to.Do not use なんin such cases.
For example
ご会社はどこですか。
go kaisha ha doko desu ka.
Which is your company?
お国はどちらですか。
o kuni ha dochira desu ka.
Which country do you come from?
学校はどちらですか。
gakkou ha dochira desu ka.
Which is your shool?
Note: “どちら” is more polite than “どこ”.
