Meaning and how to use :

“only” (showing some regret, unexpected matter)

For example

僕は100円しかない。
Boku ha ichi zero zero en shika nai.
I have only 100 yens.

かばんの中にノートを4冊入れません。
kaban no naka ni nōto o yon satsu ire mase n.
I stuffed only 4 notebook into this bag.

甘い物しか好きじゃない。
amai mono shika suki ja nai.
I only like sweet food.

図書館はせいぜい本を3冊貸しませんよ。
toshokan ha seizei hon o san satsu kashi mase n yo.
Libraby only lend us 3 book maximum.

事務所の中で二人しかいないよ。
jimusho no naka de ni nin shika i nai yo.
There are only 2 people in the office.

Note: can be used with “だけ” to emphasize the meaning “only”
