Formation :

いつか+Vたい
つかの+N

Meaning and how to use :

1.Describe the meaning “Without being concerned about, the thing has changed”. This structure is usually used in written language, while in spoken language “いつの間にか” or more formal “いつしか”

For example

いつか暗くなりました。
Itsuka kuraku nari mashi ta.
It’s got dark (i don’t notice from when i became dark).

ラジオを聞いている、いつか母が部屋に入ってお水を持ってくれた。
rajio o kii te iru, itsuka haha ga heya ni haitte o mizu o motte kure ta.
When I was listening to radio, my mother came in bringing me a cup of water (i don’t know the momment she got in).

2.”Thing that happened in the past in uncertain time”.
Used with the combination: いつか+Vた

For example

この歌はいつか聞いたらしい。
kono uta ha itsuka kii ta rashii.
I apperantly have heard this song before.

彼女と話したことがないが、いつかあったようです。
kanojo to hanashi ta koto ga nai ga, itsuka atta you desu.
I haven’t ever talk with her but I have met her sometimes.

3. Describe the meaning “Thing happening in the future in an uncertain time”. usually goes with adverbs like “きっと”,”かならず”. It’s can be combined with : “…するはずだ”, “…するだろう” at the end of the sentence,…. can add “は” or not.

For example

そんなに怠けるならいつかは失業して、貧乏になって、とてもつらいです。
sonnani namakeru nara itsuka ha shitsugyou shi te, binbou ni natte, totemo tsurai desu.
If you keep being lazy like this, you may be jobless in anytime, become poor, it would be very painful (hard to live) .

いつか彼は自分が親の期待のように上手ではないことを気づいた。
itsuka kare ha jibun ga oya no kitai no you ni jouzu de ha nai koto o kidui ta.
In some time you will realize that you are not what your parents expected.

4. Expresses an unclear time spot and modifies noun.
Used with the combination: いつかの+N

For example

いつかの友達が僕の家に来て、息子さんを頼む。
itsuka no tomodachi ga boku no ie ni ki te, musuko san o tanomu.
The friend who came my house has me keep his child.

いつかの事件が頭に出た。
itsuka no jiken ga atama ni de ta.
The event that happened in the past, now appears again in my mind.
