Meaning and how to use :
1. Expresses the meaning “Depends on, depend on N that the latter clause is doable.”
Examples:
この提案は実現されるかどうかは社長の命令いかんだ。
Kono teian ha jitsugen sareru ka dou ka ha shachou no meirei ikan da.
Whether or not the project is executable depends on the president’s commands.
私は大学を進めるかどうかは親の決意いかんだ。
Watashi ha daigaku o susumeru ka dou ka ha oya no ketsui ikan da.
Whether I can continue studying at college/university depends on my parents’ decision.
この試合では勝つかどうかみなの組み合わせ力いかんです。
Kono shiai de ha katsu ka dou ka mina no kumiawase ryoku ikan desu.
This match’s result is dependent on the players’ cooperations.
2. いかんで
Expresses the meaning “Depend, based on.. that..”
Examples:
投票券数いかんで、次の市長が選ばれます。
Touhyou ken suu ikan de, tsugi no shichou ga erabare masu.
Based on the number of votes that the next mayor will be chosen.
合理的な理由いかんで、欠席した場合は認められます。
Gouri teki na riyuu ikan de, kesseki shi ta baai ha mitomerare masu.
Based on reasonable excuses that abstences will be approved.
売上げいかんで、社員の今月のボーナスが上がります。
Uriage ikan de, shain no kongetsu no bōnasu ga agari masu.
Based on sales that the employees’ bonuses this month have risen.
