Formation :

Meaning and how to use :

Describing the speculation based on a certain base. Often go with words like「そうだ」、「ようだ」、「らしい」. Can be replaced by「どうやら」

Examples:

彼女はどうも泣きそうだ。
Kanojo wa dōmo naki souda.
She seems to cry.

彼が通勤している会社が貿易会社ようだ。
Kare ga tsuukin shite iru kaisha ga bouekigaisha youda.
The place he is working at seems to be a trading company.

あの人はどうも田中さんの兄弟のようだ。田中さんに似ています。
Ano hito wa doumo Tanaka-san no kyoudai no youda. Tanaka-san ni nite imasu.
He’s probably Tanaka’s brother. Looking like Tanaka.

子供はどうも悪いことをしたばかりらしい。
Kodomo wa doumo warui koto wo shita bakarirashii.
My child seems to have done something bad.

妹はどうもいいことにあったようだ。
Imouto wa doumo ii koto ni atta youda.
My sister must have met a good thing.
